Fraser Island

I arrived in Rainbow Beach on October 11th after a 14 hour night bus with Jurgen and Daniel.  On this day, we stayed in Rainbow Beach.  It is a very small town with a population of around 1,000.  It was nice to have a bit of a breather as more often than not on this Queensland adventure, I feel like I am working rather than being on holiday.  All of our activities are in the early morning and we are constantly on the go.

The next morning we said goodbye to Daniel because he was taking a one day tour and Jurgen and I were taking a 3 day tour.  We hopped on the bus and there was Daniel, the 3 of us reunited after 10 minutes!  Everyone, no matter the amount of days on Fraser all started the tour together for a couple of hours.  Fraser Island is only a 10 minute barge ride from Rainbow Beach.

On the bus ride, I met Matt, an Englishman and we hit it off right away.  Birthdays within days of one another born in the same year and madly in love with history.  He was also on the 3 day 2 night tour.  Instant friends!

After going to the lake, Daniel left us to continue his 1 day tour and we met up with our 3 day groups.  Fraser Island is the largest sand island in the world.  The 4x4 driving we did was the most intense I have ever done in my life.  Some of the jumps... we could have hit the ceiling had we not been strapped in.  It was quite the adventure driving through the rainforest!

On this night, we all got to know one another with lots of goon.  Young backpackers keeping it cheap with the boxed wine.  We met Pierre and Sylvan, both Frenchman along with several other people from around Europe.  This was one hell of a night and a few of us really bonded.  Sylvan and I definitely have the same sense of humor which in my personal opinion is the key to a good friendship.  If you laugh the same way, you'll always have a good time.

The second day was the best day for me.  We saw a shipwreck, drove along the coast, saw animals and enjoyed each other's company.  Matt and I took a small plane ride to see the island from the air.  It was a scary ride, but well worth it for the views.

Unfortunately some of the group was only doing a 2 day tour and left us in the evening of the second day, Pierre being one of them.  The last day was spent 4x4 driving and swimming in other lakes on the island.

Three fantastic days with great people!  A lot of fun, loads of memories and laughs.  Many plans already made to meet up in Australia and elsewhere in the world!  Love you guys!
