Pompeii, Naples, Baia Domizia

On August 10, 2013, Susanna and I took a day trip from Rome to Pompeii.  It was absolutely wonderful to be here!  This is a well known historical site and it was great to see the ruins, Mount Vesuvius, and the people that were covered in ash.  Well... the last bit was quite sad, but interesting at the same time.  We really enjoyed our time there and spent quite a few hours wandering around the ruins.

After Pompeii, we went to Naples which is famous for being the creator of pizza.  Our main objective there was to eat this well spoken about pizza.  I researched on google the best restaurants and it lead us to L'antica Pizzeria da Michele.  This restaurant was established in 1870 and was featured in the movie Eat, Pray, Love starring Julia Roberts.  My mom and I absolutely adore her and have watched many of her movies.  We ordered 2 pizzas and shared them.  In America, we are so used to eating certain kinds of pizza and the taste of this was very different, but delicious nonetheless.  The mozzarella tasted very fresh.  Susanna and I thought Naples was awful.  It was filthy and the people just have a way about them.  Luckily for me, I had to opportunity to come back to Naples a few days later and was able to see some of the beauty of this city.  It still is not my favorite by any means, but there is beauty in it.

After Susanna left Rome, I left for Baia Domizia which is a coastal city between Rome and Naples.  My friend Vittorio picked me up from the train station and took me to wonderful places for the next few days.  This area is absolutely beautiful and is away from all tourists, tucked between the sea and the mountains.  I ate amazing peaches from his groves and tried some really great foods and desserts.  Really nice few days in an isolated place!

After this, I decided to go back to Naples to give it a second shot.  I don't love Naples, but there is some beauty in it as I said above.  I wandered around for a couple days and ate many pizzas.  No more Naples in my future though!
