Auschwitz

On June 5, 2013, I went to Auschwitz.  This place is the symbol of the Holocaust due to the many horrors that occurred here.  I honestly don't have very much to say other than what a horrible, disgusting place and time in our history.  It is definitely worth it to go there just to see how humanity can be so cruel and to make sure that history never repeats.  I was incredibly emotional after realizing I was walking where the prisoners walked and standing where thousands of people were murdered. What a place...

 Original floor

 Human remains collected.

Being chosen as fit enough to work, if not, sentenced to death.

Gypsy children being sent to their death.

Items stolen from the prisoners including artificial limbs.

 Shooting wall

Hole where the Cyclone B was dropped.

 Gas chamber

 Crematory

Around 80 people were packed into these and sent to Auschwitz.

The Germans tried to blow up evidence as the Soviets were closing in.

 Mass grave pit

Living conditions: 4 women per bunk, all 3 levels including the ground floor.

Toilets

I could go on and on and tell you about things I knew prior to coming and all the new things I learned, but you just got to invest the time in either reading or going for yourself really.  Yes, history is a huge passion of mine and is my Minor, but this time in history should be known by everyone.  It was such an awful place where people were murdered, experimented on and treated as if they were less than human beings.  This wasn't the only horrible mass murdering that happened in our history either... obviously!  I know history isn't for everyone, but it is our past and what makes us who we are and what we become.  It is very important to know the history of our world!
