Salisbury/Stonehenge/Winchester

Salisbury has the tallest Cathedral spire in all of the United Kingdom.  It has such a beautiful church from the outside.  Unfortunately I am a little churched out and need to conserve funds, so I decided that it was not necessary for me to go inside.  Salisbury is a great little town in the South of England.  It is amazing to see a town that has stores and such similar to anywhere else, but then you just look over in another direction and there is just beautiful green hills and farms.  I love nature and the feeling of breathing clean, fresh air.

Stonehenge was absolutely amazing!  I went there on May 22, 2013.  Susanna's dad Russ was kind enough to take me there in the morning and it was perfect timing.  I had about 20 minutes of not that many people around.  It was such an amazing thing to see!  Many say it is just a bunch of stones, but I don't agree.  The way they are positioned and the mystery behind them is completely fascinating to me.  The fact that they could be a large "clock" fascinates me even more.  One could tell what month of the year it is based on which rocks the sun shone through.  I absolutely loved it and could picture reading a book beside it and spending all day there.  Unfortunately this is one of the most famous places in the world so after about 20 minutes, Stonehenge was packed with hundreds of people making my daydream impossible.  I was still very lucky though to have seen it when I did!

After I was at Stonehenge, I went to Woodhenge which is very close, but yet not as much of a tourist site.  Hardly anyone was there and it didn't cost me anything to see it.  They believe that this was also made around the same time as Stonehenge.  There used to be wood pillars here, but now they have concrete blocks demonstrating and showing where the pillars would have been.

I also went to Winchester, England on May 22, 2013 with Susanna.  We went there in order to see King Arthur's Round Table.  That was absolutely amazing to see and I was almost moved to tears.  It was just so amazing seeing this piece of history.  It is not exactly known when this table was made, but historians believe Henry III made it in the 14th century because he loved the stories of King Arthur and his Knights.  I'd like to believe that this was the actual table, but most likely not the case.  The mysteries and legends of King Arthur continue!

Winchester is a cute little town.  After being in the Grand Hall and seeing the Round Table, we went to an amazing museum, The Green Jackets (Rifles) Museum.  They had great displays of several wars that the British were involved in.  They also had a large Waterloo diorama that was incredible!  I really recommend this museum if you are ever in this neck of the woods.

 Playing dress up!

After this, Susanna and I walked to the town center and the cathedral.  We were lucky and got in for free.  Inside this cathedral is Jane Austen's grave.  It was nice reading about her life and seeing where this great author is laid to rest.
